The Student-Teacher Connection
One of the key distinctives of a Christopher Dock education is the connection between students and teachers. Dock teachers are highly qualified and almost three-fourths have advanced degrees. But what truly sets them apart is the care they demonstrate for students that goes beyond the classroom. But don't take our word for it--listen to what our students and parents have to say:
"At Dock I have been exposed to true learning. It's not just memorizing [facts]. Dock taught me how to articulate what I believe, and teachers pushed me to apply what I learned to my life. I became a better learner rather than just a better student." -- Marsha Bergey, Dock '09, Eastern Mennonite University '13
"Christopher Dock does a great job of preparing me for college. One opportunity Dock provided was to obtain AP credits, but more importantly, the faculty was committed to my academic success. Whether it was staying after school or working through lunch, my teachers at Dock went the extra mile to make sure my questions were answered. That kind of commitment put me in a great place to enter college math classes." -- Elena Histand, Dock '06, Goshen College '10, now a high school math teacher in Virginia.
"Thanks to Mrs. Grega for helping me find a new way to approach learning so that it works better for me." -- Brianna Derstine, Dock '10
"I don't know if it was being required to write so much, or Mrs. Rauch's enthusiasm for my writing that made me eager to write more. Whatever the case, I have found a new passion of mine that I wasn't aware of." -- Hayley Althouse, Dock '10
"I want to thank the Christopher Dock teachers, for not only giving us a quality education, but for genuinely caring for us, teaching us about the world, teaching us about ourselves. I feel prepared now to head off to college and see what it has to offer." -- Holly Solomon, Dock '10
"I wanted to take [Advanced Placement] Composition in part to guarantee that I would have Mrs. McTavish again. I learned to love the process of writing. Mrs. McTavish, you taught a wonderful class and I am thankful that I was able to have you as a teacher for two years. You are truly influential and I am appreciative of all that you have done for me." -- Becca Grasse, Dock '10
"Dock provides an environment conducive to thinking about global issues. I remember many classes and teachers discussing peace and justice issues from both the social studies and faith angles. Teachers of all subjects work actively to open students' minds to other people and how they experience life. Dock definitely prepared me for life and my work." -- Rachel Miller, Dock '00, now a Masters student in peace studies at Notre Dame University.
"Mrs. Grega is an invaluable asset to the school. She has a great way of helping struggling kids find the best in themselves." -- Dock parent
"The teachers, coaches and administrators all care deeply about the students. They are all very accessible and approachable." -- Dock parent
"We have found the teachers to be very supportive when our daughters struggle in a particular class. They have made themselves available during lunch and other times to help our daughter succeed in grasping the material." -- Dock parent
"Dock employs some wonderful, inspiring, happy teachers." -- Dock parent
